Super 15 Explained


Knowledge is power. If you're going to hold your own at the bar and braai, understanding the Super 15 SANZAR model of which team advances is crucial. Over 24 weeks, 15 Teams, grouped by geography into different conferences, play 125 matches. These are either internal or cross conference matches. Internal has each team playing the other four teams twice in the same conference, home and away. (You see where this is going...) Cross has each team playing four teams away and home of the other two conferences. Naturally, thats eight cross conference games per team. Which is how the Crusaders, 3rd highest on points ended up 4th at this stage and played the Bulls. This is where the wild cards are brought into the mix, who don't play the top two conference winners on points, who have a bye. Knock out permutations now allow for the Lithuanian Lacrosse team to oust the Shuttlecock Sherpas who have statistically dominated possession.
