Sticks and Stones

John Terry's just been acquitted of using racially abusive language towards Anton Ferdinand. Lipreading the incident left me in no doubt as to what was said, based on matching words that I might possibly have read once...Some publications noted the expletives, but when you've seen one ****, you've seen them all - apparently- so there wasn't any shock value. The challenge came in reporting a trial where everything revolved around what 'paint peeling profanities' were used - but the nature of the publication prevented the author from mentioning them. Thus the 'context gave startling insight into traditional soccer-field discourse'.  'Mr Ferdinand tauntingly reminded Mr. Terry that he had illicitly slept with the girlfriend of another player'. Due to the rapid nature of the game, the disputing players preferred to use abridged and blunter expressions. You might wish to insert your own version of their 'long and abusive soliloquies', based on replays from Youtube. 'Male and female genitalia were compared in consecutive sentences'. 'However unpleasant taunts about their mothers having sex with other people in different cities', Mr Terry explained it 'was a fact of the modern game.' Rhetorical repetition of other players insults is a matter of style.
Sounds like the report of a tiff at speed chess...
