When the SE wind is ripping across Cape Town, the table cloth covers the mountain, with a tail extending back to Cape Point - thats a real blow. The ocean is a swirl of whitecaps and spray, sand storms snake across the road - and conditions are perfect for a downwind paddle. About 30 guys and girls, with skis and SUPs, left Milnerton for Big Bay at 6pm - they were there before 7! I imagined they'd hug the coast, but the best line was nearly a kilometer out to sea, and a straight run to the rock at Big Bay. Riding open ocean swells, followed by penguins is a pure adrenalin rush. Great way to end the day - Chris Bertish came in first in a record time.
