Rio Ferdinand injures left knee
A tackle between Emile Heskey and England Captain Rio Ferdinand went wrong during training at their Royal Bafokeng Camp. Rio is out of the World Cup with a Grade 2 Cruciate Ligament tear, but will remain with the team for some time in a motivational role. He joins injured David Beckham, who has taken the media liaison role. Should their injury problems continue, there are still openings for a tea specialist, warm bitters scout and a hanky 'knot tier', when the African sun sizzles and they need head protection and Timothy Whites sun cream... England are playing local team, Platinum Stars in their final warm up before taking on USA in their first game. The full side playing USA will get a run for at least 45 minutes, to get a feel for playing together at altitude. Spurs' Michael Dawson is already at the camp to take over Rio's spot, and Steven Gerrard will quietly assume the Captaincy.
