Mining rights are being sought for an Open Cast Tungsten mine, up-stream from Elands Bay. Waste runoff would threaten Verlorenvlei - if you've never seen it, its peaceful, teeming with birdlife and fresh, unpolluted water. Surfers will be paddling the area on Saturday, taking pics to highlight the ecosystem and raising awareness for your support. Join them for the 13.5km paddle on a longbord, gun or SUP. The bleeding heart motivation from the miners is always - 'we're doing it to create jobs for our people' - Food security is more important than tungsten - give us a labour intensive farm if thats your true motivation.
