Shallow Waters

When you catch your first wave in the tropics, the waters so clear, you're not sure where to hit your bottom turn - you're looking right through the wave onto the reef. It feels about 6 inches deep, its probably around 3 foot, and the fish scatter as you skid past them. Be careful - a coral cut could ruin your trip if you don't scrub it with limes and peroxide that evening.
This photo comes close to showing you what it feels like riding over live coral - Alberto Gugliemi took it
